Ok, this is going to be long.

First of all, take what you know about N1 games and throw it out the window. SC plays nothing like them. Sure there are some borrowed elements and the art style/music/writing is good ole' N1, but the game is almost a completely different genre than the last many years of their SRPGS. But once again in this new take on the SRPG realm, they've basically re-written how strategy games work from scratch and are doing their best to keep everything fresh and new.

1. People: People are like Disgaea, once you beat any enemy you can use it in character make and make a new character. This just costs money and the more you pay the higher level the character will start at. You can later go into a character and up specific stats for RP, but I don't have any RP yet I think so I dunno what that is.
-There is no equipment
-Each character has 3 basic attacks: Close, Mid, Range. When you place the character on a "room" (I'll get to that later) depending on if you place them in the front/middle/back, the move connected to that position will go off.
-In addition certain characters have special attacks and certain pairs or teams of characters have team attacks.
-If a character dies, they revive at the end of the map at no cost.

2. ROOMs: Rooms are how the game is played. Rooms are a square block with a set formation in them that you can place anywhere from 1-6+ characters in and designate one of the characters as a leader. On the battle map, you move the rooms around (represented by the leader character's sprite) and fight other rooms. These fights play out FE style where the attacker goes first, and then the defender counters. But unlike FE the whole team assiggned to the room attacks/counters. When the leader is killed the room is destroyed regardless of how many other people are still alive in the room. It's worth noting that most special attacks specifically target the leader.
-You acquire room types as you move through the game. These types have inherent abilities like "always attack last, but all stats 20% up" or "defense + 50% when defending".
-Each time you pull up a room it's random and with a random set formation. It doesn't cost anything to pull up rooms so you just keep tapping the button until you find one you like. Meanwhile sometimes when you pull up a room it'll have people on it "sorta like pirates in item world" and you can fight them to kick them off it if you want or just drop it and pull up another room.
-You start out only being a solo room. Then you get another room and you have 2 rooms/character-sprites in battle. Then you get more throughout the story or you can buy them for pretty high prices to increase the amount of units you have.
-You can equip rooms with items. Like I said above they usually have a set skill or two, but then you can add several skills of your own that you win in battle, steal off other rooms, or buy from the room skill shop. These are things like "STR+20%" or "When on bridge terrian, all stats up 20%"
-If you look at the screenshots above you'll see "POT ~~~~~~", that's the "potential" of the room. Since the characters within the room can be at different levels, that's basically the game telling you about how strong the room is as a whole. You start with a room that's about 1,500 and the final boss that you fight from the start has ~9 million POT.

3. Battle Map and Map
Maps play out on a flat map that's supposed to be a map torn out of a book. It's actually pretty cool as it's just this 2d map looking image with 2d characters standing in 3d over it and all the terrain counts. So if you stand over a river it's a river area, which will have various effects. Same with mountain and what not. One thing that's great about this is that it makes the battle scale feel epic. You can be fighting over and entire canyon or river with villages and whatnot on the shore.
-On the map you can summon as many rooms as you'd like (well maybe there's a limit. I only have 3 total at this point) without losing a turn.
-On the map you have map skills that are Suikoden Rune style where they have a number next to them and that's the total amount of times you can use the skill per map battle. These can be like "heal 50%" or "speed + atk + 20%". I'm not sure if the room or the characters in it determine the skills.
-Once you start moving on the battle map and doing actions your STAMINA starts going down. STAMINA is important because as it drops, the stats of your characters in your room drop as well. So the goal is to keep your STAMINA high while the STAMINA of your enemies low. BUT!!! The trick here is that to do special or team moves (great damage and done AFTER your normal attack so you get both attack + special = major damage in 1 turn) you have to have a stamina of 80% or less. So you can't do special moves straight from the start of a battle. Also special moves, like map skills, are like Suikoden spells and have a limited number of uses (most are 1 use) per battle map.
-At the end of a map you're ranked by how many of your characters survived, how fast you won, and how many enemies you killed. Each death on your own side is a negative number that detracts from your total money earned. You also get bonus items based on how fast you win.
-The main structure is like FFT. You have a big 2d map like FFT/FFXII and you go to the next dot and talk to people or activate an event/battle. One thing that's nice is that before going into a battle you can just "look at battle" and it lets you see the battle map/enemies/your starting placement so you can make any changes you need beforehand.

4. LEVELING.
-You can't powerlevel or level at all outside of normal story battles.
-Wait, that's a bit harsh. You can, but at my level I can't.
-The only real option for leveling (besides just pulling up rooms and fighting ones with people [the people are usually like 8x your level, so impossible]), is "room strengthen".
-The problem with room strengthen is that it dumps you into a super tiny map surrounded by 10 other rooms and you have to beat them all and come back, leveling and gaining money on the way.
-But the enemies in this level with you so if you go in at level 6, you are surrounded by 10 level 6 rooms and a boss level 16 room. This means after you have one turn, the rest all come and gang-rape you and kill you and you get a game over.
-Since they level with you I'm not exactly sure when this will become a feasable option and until it does, there is ...no way to level.
-You can't go back to past fights or anything.
-So far the main story difficulty is not an issue.

5. OTHER.
-There are no chapters like Disgaea and so on, instead the game just keeps moving from once scene to the next like a normal SRPG.
-Graphics mixup between map sprites, 2d battle sprites, portraits, and full-screen art.
-Music is solid.
-No loading.
-You can turn off your attack animations or enemy attack animations or both.
-Story is pretty good so far.
-Dark and sarcastic. More like Phantom Kingdom/Makai Kingdom "I'm evil and I destroy worlds and families and I make fun of you because you suck".
-Good amount of branching cutscenes and dialogue choices. Some lead to a bad ending immeadiately (the game puts a skull next to these to warn you). I get the feeling there's probably going to be like 20+ endings. With new game+ and some non-linearity, you can probably do some strange things.

Overall so far I really like it, but it's definitely a very unique game and it takes a bit to come to grips and to start forming good strategies for building your army. Definitely glad to see N1 try something so different and unique and I'm glad this is a three day weekend so I can sink lots of time into it
